BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN YOUNG & OLD
Changes are happening everywhere. Companies are downsizing, and syndication is steadily becoming the norm in our format. With so few positions available, it goes without saying that people are clearly beginning to feel the heat. I've heard people say that it's time for some new blood in the game. While many of today's talent feels that they have a right to be on top due to the legendary status they've achieved in their own mind, there are some (pardon the term) Old Heads who feel as though the new generation have neither the talent nor the skill to make any major impact on the radio landscape.
So who's right? I don't honestly know. I do believe that there are some major market jocks who are phoning it in, while some kid in a podunk market could probably smoke some of the "veteran" talent, if they were only given the opportunity. I've seen veteran PD's and Rookies alike act like they are God's gift to radio, when in fact, they wouldn't know a good segue if it slapped them across the head.
As I've said in the past, some of you veterans need to be more open to sharing, and some of you "veterans in the making" need to be open to honest, constructive criticism. Remember, a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
